I am a Norwegian-American water resources engineer who has lived and worked primarily in Norway and the west coast of the United States; professionally licensed in Oregon and California. I aspire to combine my strengths, values, and broad experiences to realize innovative projects that seek long-term value through well-planned and balanced designs. My career has revolved around designing and managing the construction of sewer, hydropower, and irrigation works, with general experiences extending beyond engineering into water policy, timber construction, and STEM education. My favorite experiences focus on environmentally sensitive ways for humans to interact with rivers.
My strength lies in the way I approach real world problems with simplicity and reason. The foundation of my approach applies mathematics to break apart objects and ideas in search of the fundamental mechanisms inside that make them work. This approach shines light on the core of complex systemic issues. The results of my efforts – be they construction drawings, timber structures, or infographics – are creative, easy to follow, and optimized. In a work environment where new ideas are valued and needed, I strive to create a product of high quality and enjoy doing so.
I value spaces that allow people to be at ease and nature to thrive. Through my work I wish to create facilities today that are conducive to the human and environmental needs of the future. By focusing first on the human needs that drive the projects I plan, I find ways to please those I serve while still allowing our built environment to interact better with our natural one. For myself I value personal growth and constantly seek to strengthen my abilities with new knowledge and skills.
My professional experiences are summarized in my resume below and described in greater detail under the “experience” section of this site.
